The back page of tomorrow’s Daily News says it all. All with a regular bat which gave the Mets the Big win tonight. They take game one of their series not just with Alonso but behind some great pitching. 10-4 Some great pitching by Peterson who went 6 innings 5 hit 2 runs 9ks 3 walks. Pen was good as well but finally gave up 2 runs by young. Gotta settle down but still excited thay the pen is looking good. The starters are truly performing well and may it keep going this way. The offense that we all wanted finally woke up. Pete as I said was the big bat thay gave the big blow. Marte started it off with his HR. Torrens with his 2 run bomb and nimmo waking up as with with his two Ribeyes. Soto got his hit and walk and did ehay he can to contribute.A game that was good all around. Can’t complain as the ups will be fun and the downs will show itself as well. Just gotta be behind this team no matter what. They got the pitching and now the hitting has to be how it was tonight.……….Read more

A legend to me, Bobby Pfeil! 1969 my first major league baseball game, Mets vs. Giants at Shea. Right before my father and I left to take the 7 train from 74st., my mother said “make sure to catch a foul ball for Robby.” My father says “Don’t say that, it’s not likely.” Of course 7 year old me keeps asking my dad if he’s to catch a foul ball. Well you can probably see where this is headed… we’re in the Mezzanine and sure enough a ball off the bat of Bobby Pfeil heads right towards us and my dad makes a one handed catch. What are the odds? And, I still remember the look on my mothers face when we got home and I had a ball in my hand. Priceless and I will always remember Bobby Pfeil! Box Score in comments. Edit to add: My father wanted to put the ball in one of those acrylic baseball holders but 7 year old me wanted to play with the ball with his friends. Of course, we played with it in the rain for hours and the ball didn’t survive and fell apart. That’s a 7 year old brain for you.
