In a significant development for rock enthusiasts, Mick Box, the venerable guitarist and founding member of Uriah Heep, has announced that the band’s upcoming “The Magician’s Farewell” tour, commencing in February 2025, will mark the end of their extensive global touring. However, fans can take solace in the fact that this doesn’t signify the end of Uriah Heep’s live performances. Box has clarified that while long, arduous tours will cease, the band intends to continue with select festivals and special events. He stated, “Once we’ve done that, we’ll still be doing festivals and weekend work… but the long arduous tours we’re not gonna do anymore.”
This decision comes as the band reflects on an illustrious career spanning over five decades. Formed in London in 1969, Uriah Heep has been a stalwart in the progressive heavy rock scene, with Box remaining the sole original member. At 77, his passion and energy continue to drive the band’s dynamic performances. The current lineup also includes vocalist Bernie Shaw, who joined in 1986 and continues to impress with his powerful, operatic range.
The farewell tour is set to be an extensive journey, potentially spanning two to three years, as the band aims to connect with fans worldwide one last time on such a scale. Box expressed gratitude to their dedicated fanbase, acknowledging the unwavering support they’ve received since the band’s inception. He remarked, “Who can believe next year is 55 years since the band started? And I know many of you have been with us since the beginning.”
Despite the challenges posed by the evolving music industry landscape, including logistical hurdles and rising costs, Uriah Heep remains committed to their craft. Their most recent album, “Chaos & Colour,” released in early 2023, showcases their enduring creativity and relevance in the rock genre.
As the band transitions away from extensive touring, fans can look forward to special appearances and festival performances, ensuring that Uriah Heep’s legacy continues to resonate with audiences old and new. Box’s message is clear: while the nature of their performances may evolve, the spirit of Uriah Heep remains unwavering.
