Mikkey Dee, the renowned drummer for Scorpions and former member of Motörhead, is recuperating after a severe battle with sepsis. The 61-year-old musician was hospitalized for three weeks during the holiday season in his hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden. He underwent multiple surgeries at Sahlgrenska University Hospital to combat the life-threatening blood infection.
Dee’s health crisis began after he sprained his ankle in December 2024. The injury led to significant swelling and an unusual appearance, prompting immediate medical attention. Reflecting on the severity of his condition, Dee remarked, “Another day and I’d be playing drums with Lemmy in Heaven.”
Now back home, Dee is focused on recovery and rehabilitation. He expressed deep gratitude to the medical staff, stating, “Thankfully, I have received fantastic care at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, my hometown.”
Looking ahead, Dee is determined to return to the stage. He is aiming to be back on the drum stool for Scorpions’ upcoming Las Vegas residency, which is scheduled to begin on February 27, 2025. He shared his optimism, saying, “We have a tremendous 2025 to look forward to, celebrating 60 years of Scorpions and many exciting gigs around the world.”
