Following his Super League signing, former Parramatta Eels player Daejarn Asi, an NRL recruit for the Castleford Tigers, has opened up about his preferred position, his 2025 aspirations, and the team he is most excited to play with.
Following his signing with Super League club Castleford Tigers, former Parramatta Eels player Daejarn Asi has opened up about his excitement for the future and his plans for the 2025 season. Asi, who made the decision to head to the UK for a new challenge, is looking forward to contributing to Castleford’s success and building on his NRL experience.
The 24-year-old utility back, who has played multiple positions during his time with Parramatta, shared that he is most comfortable in the centres but is willing to play wherever the team needs him. “My preferred position is definitely in the centres, but I’ve always prided myself on being adaptable,” Asi said. “Whether it’s in the backline or filling in the halves, I’m happy to contribute wherever the coach thinks I’ll add the most value.”
Castleford Tigers, who finished mid-table in the 2024 Super League season, are hoping Asi’s versatility will bring a new dynamic to their squad in 2025. Asi, who impressed in the NRL during his time with the Eels, is eager to prove himself in the Super League, a competition he sees as a perfect opportunity to grow as a player. “I’ve watched a lot of Super League, and I’ve always thought it’s a tough, physical competition. The game is a bit different to the NRL, but I think my skills and adaptability will help me transition smoothly,” he explained.
In terms of his personal goals for 2025, Asi is focused on making a significant impact and helping Castleford reach the upper echelons of the Super League. “I’m excited about the opportunity to build a strong team chemistry and push for finals contention. My aim is to give my best every week, continue developing, and contribute to Castleford’s success,” he added.
One of the key aspects that excites Asi most about his move is the chance to play alongside some of the Tigers’ seasoned internationals. “There are a lot of great players at Castleford, and I’m excited to learn from them,” Asi said. “I’ve always admired players like Paul McShane and be part of a team that’s hungry to achieve something big.”
Asi’s decision to leave Australia and pursue a Super League career marks the beginning of a new chapter in his rugby league journey, and he’s eager to see where the next few seasons take him. With his talent and determination, Daejarn Asi’s future with the Castleford Tigers looks bright.
