Parramatta Eels assistant coach Jason Ryles was overcome with emotion as he learned of the passing of his mentor and close friend, legendary rugby league coach, Wayne Bennett.
Ryles, who played under Bennett at the Brisbane Broncos, broke down in tears upon hearing the news. “Wayne was more than just a coach to me; he was a father figure, a mentor, and a true friend,” Ryles said, struggling to contain his emotions.
Bennett, widely regarded as one of the greatest rugby league coaches of all time, leaves behind a legacy that transcends the sport. His influence on Ryles’ coaching career was immense.
“Wayne taught me the value of hard work, discipline, and compassion,” Ryles reflected. “He instilled in me the confidence to become the coach I am today.”
The Parramatta Eels organization, players, and staff rallied around Ryles, offering condolences and support.
