BREAKING NEWS;’ Kieran McKenna makes final decision on his future following negotiations with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Brighton…
Kieran McKenna has told pals that he is hesitant to take over as manager of Manchester United, despite conversations with Chelsea and Brighton, according to Football Insider.
According to sources, the Ipswich Town manager’s “heart” remains with his old club, where he previously worked as an assistant manager under Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ralph Rangnick before taking over at Portman Road.
McKenna, 38, is already familiar with Old Trafford’s players and staff and would feel quite at home.
McKenna is a leading contender for the role that might become vacant within days, as first disclosed by Football Insider on April 2nd, when we broke the news that United’s interest in the manager is “concrete”.
His reps have met with United, Chelsea, and Brighton, but it is understood that taking over at Old Trafford is his top priority.
However, he must wait for Erik ten Hag to be fired, as reports indicate INEOS will first conduct a season evaluation, with the manager’s position dominating the conversation.
McKenna joined Ipswich in 2021 after serving as an assistant manager at Old Trafford. He led the club to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
His reputation has risen as one of England’s most highly respected young managers, receiving interest from prominent Premier League clubs looking to replace retiring managers.
It is also claimed that United executives were impressed not only by his on-field performances, but also by his attitude and personality.
McKenna will meet with Ipswich this week, but it is more likely he will leave Portman Road in the coming weeks.
