AM LEAVING; Giants’ starting cornerback says he is leaving due to…
Joe Schoen, the general manager of the New York Giants, invested a lot of money to improve the offense this summer. Despite selecting Minnesota defender Tyler Nubin with a second-round pick, most draft selections went to offensive players, including Malik Nabers, who was selected with the sixth overall pick.
The team may have to turn to indigenous talent to cover for Deonte Banks at cornerback as they did not address this position.
Nick McCloud and Cor’Dale Flott are the two main choices. Former LSU third-round pick Flott played 519 snaps last season, giving up 452 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and three pass breakups.
Even though he wasn’t always successful, he had excellent performances against Miami and Washington, giving up a total of just 18 yards. He played 432 snaps in the slot and 45 outside last season, mostly being contained to one place by the Giants. After Adoree Jackson proved to be a bad match at Nickel, this change was made.
The Giants Have Internal Options at CB2.
The Giants will probably give Flott another opportunity to challenge McCloud for the outside position in the future. There will be additional possibilities at CB2 with Kentucky native Andru Phillips expected to start at nickel.
The 25-year-old McCloud, an undrafted free agent, saw 312 snaps last season and recorded an interception and a pass breakup in addition to surrendering 152 yards and one score. In addition, he had 20 tackles and a 15.4% missed tackle percentage. Throughout the previous two seasons, McCloud has played 909 snaps as a professional, primarily with the Giants. He has the potential to contribute significantly to a young secondary.
