NEWS NOW;’ New Angels manager Ron Washington makes unpleasant comment over Baltimores…
Even after just two games, the Los Angeles Angels’ clubhouse seems to be in complete disarray.
It’s so awful, in fact, that after their 13-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, new manager Ron Washington had to hold an emergency team meeting. It was the second crushing defeat for the Angels in the 2024 season opener.
Given that there are still 160 games and many months left in the season, such meetings are often scheduled later in the season, but it’s understandable why Washington felt compelled to take that action.
This spring, the Angels had about the worst possible start to the season. They were defeated by the Orioles 11-3 in their season opener on Thursday, and they were defeated by nine runs on Saturday. In just the sixth inning, Baltimore scored nine runs before the Angels also recorded an out. Before they got an out, they had to withdraw reliever Luis Garcia and starter Griffin Canning.
Through two games, the Angels have given up a franchise-high 24 runs allowed.
Maybe the team meeting was successful. In response, the Angels won their third game of the three-game series on Sunday, defeating Baltimore 4-1. The Angels took the lead in the first inning thanks to a two-run home run from Taylor Ward. They added two more runs in the second inning and managed to hang on for the remainder of the game.
Now, beginning on Monday afternoon, the Angels will travel to Miami for a three-game series against the Marlins. They will take on the Boston Red Sox in their home opener on Friday.
The post-Shohei Ohtani era in Anaheim is off to a very poor start, but there is still plenty of time to turn things around.
