Connor Dewar traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin traded forward Connor Dewar to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the last minute before the deadline. In exchange, the Wild will get a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. The Wild drafted Dewar in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft, 92nd overall. This was his third season with the Wild, having spent the previous two with its AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild.
Dewar is a fourth-line center renowned for his ability to score and set up shorthanded goals. He has been a vital component of the Wild’s penalty kill. This season, he has 14 points (10 goals and 4 assists) from 57 games played. Dewar has 38 points from 173 NHL games (10 goals, 4 assists). He scored his first hat trick of the season against the Nashville Predators on November 30, 2023.
Dewar is in the final year of his two-year deal and will become a free agent following this year. He will be eligible for arbitration this offseason. His current contract has a $800,000 cap hit and was signed on June 22, 2022. His qualifying offer for the following deal is $892,500.
Bill Guerin has been busy gathering draft picks this trade deadline. He now possesses a third and fourth-round pick, as well as a conditional sixth-round pick, all in 2026. The Wild are currently seven points out of a wild card berth, with an unclear road ahead. A playoff spot is feasible, but it is not likely.
