Deebo Samuel does not anticipate Brandon Aiyuk leaving the 49ers anytime soon.
In the middle of all the speculation surrounding Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers, Deebo Samuel had to clarify that “BA” isn’t going anywhere.
The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver appeared on Up & Adams with Kay Adams on Tuesday. During the interview, Samuel was asked about Aiyuk and what he believed the future held for his competitor. While Deebo isn’t a general manager by any means, he would be surprised to see a teammate not wearing Red and Gold.
“I adore that guy. “I don’t see him leaving,” Samuel said of Aiyuk on Tuesday. The host concurred, describing it as a potential “mistake” by the 49ers.
Brandon Aiyuk, 25, is coming off his greatest NFL season yet. The Rocklin native has 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns en route to his first All-Pro selection. BA is expected to receive a hefty contract extension as he enters his fifth year option, which Samuel has told the player he deserves.
He just finished the season, as well as the prior seasons. “I mean, if you look at his numbers from when he first came into the league to now, it’s always a different type of leap,” Samuel said. “As I told him Hey, you’ve put yourself in a position to be where you want to be. In terms of [obtaining] a new job and other such matters.”
Samuel, 28, inked a new contract with the 49ers before the 2022 season, committing to the team for three more years. Having already gone through the process, he offered his advice to his younger counterpart.
The most important piece of advise is to not expect everything to go as planned.
I just warned him, because I’ve been through it, that it’s not going to be as easy as he thinks. “You have to stay the course,” Samuel reported from his conversation with Aiyuk. “You have done all imaginable to be in the position you are in. Just let everything play out.
Aiyuk may have to wait some time before signing a new contract. According to reports, the 49ers and Aiyuk will review the situation following free agency.
